You know when you’re planning a vacation that involves a lot of eating, and probably a little drinking to go with it? Because the Shop Tart knows how that is. She’s on one of those vacations right now, and the eating and drinking has already begun (though not in earnest just yet).

Let the butter tasting begin!

Anyhow, the Shop Tart had a great time last weekend at the museum’s Bal du Moulin Rouge. She enjoyed everything there was to enjoy and spent far too much time in the p√Ętisserie with Ally & Eloise. Shop Tart Tip: You don’t know from awesome until you’ve had one — or three — of their salted caramel macarons.

Ally & Eloise at the CMA Gala

At the gala, she ran into Lacy Carbone, the lovely owner of Bikram Yoga Columbia, conveniently located behind Groucho’s on Forest Drive. (Hey, it’s all about balance.) Lacy — who had offered her five free classes, which she had yet to attend — convinced her to come to her very first Bikram class the next day. (To clarify, it was to be the Shop Tart’s first Bikram class, certainly not Lacy’s. She’s a pro!) Against her better judgment, the Shop Tart was all, “YEAH! I WILL TOTALLY BE THERE.” When she woke up in the morning, she did not want to go. But that seemed rude, so she went. And it was awesome.

The door to the classroom asks a question,

Bikram Yoga Columbia.

The answer better be “yes.” Because you will sweat. You could sit there for an hour and a half and sweat. Or you can move around and sweat. The Shop Tart prefers the latter. The class is appropriate for all levels, because you hold the poses, rather than speeding from one to the next. The clients at Bikram Yoga Columbia were all kinds of people, so don’t be shy. And don’t be self conscious. The room is relatively dark, and no one’s looking at you. Even if they are, the sweat is running into their eyes, so they can’t see. Take a few classes, and you’ll be doing this in no time…

The Shop Tart made it to one more class before she got on a plane for New Orleans, hoping to pre-sweat. She’ll let you know how that works. Bikram Yoga Columbia is such a welcoming place — free of judgment. In fact, the goal of each class is to simply “stay in the room.” You’ll see plenty of people taking breaks, so feel free to do the same.

Do you do yoga? What’s your favorite? Because the Shop Tart likes to do all the yoga.
