Win Tickets to Wine for Water: An Earth Day Event for a Great Cause

Wine for Water: An Earth Day Event

One thing I love about Columbia…wait. This time of year, I love pretty much everything about Columbia. I love that people like to ditch work early and go hang out on the patio at Terra and drink prosecco. I love that my sister sat on a bench outside at the state house and had a sandwich for lunch today. I love all the flowers, even though they make my eyes water. But one thing I always love about Columbia is how much it means to people here to support a cause. The first question people ask when you mention an event is, “Who does it benefit?” They know it benefits them personally, because we do like to party, but Columbians love to help. Everyone I know volunteers time or gives money, or both, to a favorite non-profit or three. Thanks, Columbia!

Tomorrow, there is an excellent opportunity for us to party, celebrate Earth Day, and support a great cause.

Date:  Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, 2015
Time: 6 pm to 8pm
Where:  The Hall at Senate’s End,  320 Senate Street

This Earth Day, April 22nd, from 6-8pm, join local watershed organizations for good food, wine and a silent auction.

Join Gills Creek, Rocky Branch and Smith Branch watershed associations at Columbia’s Senate’s End to celebrate our vision for the streams and rivers that we have pledged to preserve!  Enjoy food from local restaurants, wines from around the world and great deals at the silent auction from local donors.  Make a toast to Earth Day along the Congaree River, and help us plan and create healthy local waterways!

Wine for Water will benefit the watershed associations, environmental non-profits dedicated to restoring the Midlands’ watersheds through education, grassroots action, and public and private partnerships.

Tickets for the event are $25 for members and $35 for non-members, with a special ticket and membership package for $50.

View the invite on the web for more information and tickets or take a look at a post about the event on Sustainable Midlands’ blog.

Which local restaurants will be participating? Plenty, including some of your favorites like Terra, Silver Spoon Bake Shop, the Oak Table, and 116 Espresso and Wine.

Sounds great, right? How would you like to win a ticket? How about a pair? Here’s your chance. Leave a comment below, and you may be selected to win two tickets to the event. (Details: You will be notified by email, so please use a real one. Your email will NOT be published. The winners will be chosen tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm.) Ready, set, go!

What a crazy time of year in Columbia! This weekend alone there is Artista Vista, the Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival, and let’s not forget about Art Fields. My husband and I usually have to pick one thing a weekend (or we would be broke!) so we usually can’t make it to weekday events but we would love to go!!

One thing I love about Columbia is the iconic, locally owned and operated businesses like the one I have had the privilege to call my workplace for the last 20 years, Todd & Moore Sporting Goods. Another favorite, is Cromer’s. Cromer’s is celebrating 80 years this year. They have us beat by a mere 9 years!

Water is our life blood here on the Blue Planet. We take it for granted to our peril. What a great idea for a gathering to celebrate our WATER with food and wine and good fellowship! I would love to attend.
